The voice is an instrument.
When I first learned of an instrument, I thought of an object that you can touch and play. The sound of strings is great. The drums are good. The flute and other wind instruments are fantastic. The last instrument that I learned of was the voice. I remember when I was introduced to Monique Seka as a vocalist, I asked myself why she was called vocalist. Until that time, a singer and vocalist were the same. I did not understand the distinction in calling Monique Seka a vocalist. It was explained that she is a vocalist because her voice is an instrument.
The first time a human voice ever amazed me was when I listened to Monique Seka. From the very first listen, I understood the difference between a singer and a vocalist. A singer performs the lyrics of a song. A vocalist uses their voice as an instrument.
To the vocal instrument, to those who channel the musical spirit with their voice, and
