If you were to ask someone in Douala, where is the coolest place on Earth? They would likely answer Abidjan. Douala admires Abidjan like no other place on Earth.
Growing up, I never got an explanation on how Douala developed this deep affection for Abidjan. I was raised to believe that Abidjan is a cool place because, because? Because. It is still a mystery to me as to why we love Abidjan.
I recall that there was an aura whenever a conversation about Abidjan came up, people would glow up just talking about Abidjan. I often wondered, what is so great about Abidjan that has everyone so excited? I knew that there was a great singer from there, Monique Seka. I knew that there was great music from there but still, the admiration for Abidjan was different, it felt like Abidjan had a sparkle, a fizz similar to a refreshing carbonated drink.
The feeling is still present with me, the admiration for Abidjan. I want to visit Abidjan. I want to experience the magic in person. I want to love Abidjan in person. For now, I listen to this song so I can fall in love with Abidjan like the very first time.
